INSURANCE V. LAW

RUGBY REUNION GAMES BOTH END IN DRAW By a coincidence, both senior and junior Rugby matches, played at Eden Park yesterday afternoon, in connection with the annual reunion celebrations of the Auckland law and insurance professions, ended in a draw. The junior game, which was rather ■ a listless display of the code, saw the teams come off 5 points all. Law had, if anything, the better of the earlier stages of the encounter, but in the. final half the Insurance boys put more vim into their work, and a try by Hook, which he himself converted, equalised the score. Grieg score d Law’s only try, and Mcllroy added the extras. Law fielded what, on paper, seemed j to be much tho better team in the senior match. It included the Skelton brothers, McCarthy, Keegan and Gillespie. A few minutes after tlie opening, Law swept all before it, and Kingston went over for a try, which Skelton converted. The advocates fielded a much heavier pack, and had the better of tho first half of the game. Williams, on tho Insurance wing, ran over for a good try, but it was not converted. The game was now hard and fast, and on ono occasion Keegan and an Insurance player cam© into collision, both having to leave the field. After this the lawyers went to pieces, and Insurance practi-, cally did as it liked. Noakes and Ralph-Smith scored tries in quick succession, both of which were converted by Clarke. This put tho teams level, as previously Alilliken had scored an unconverted try for Law, and Keegan had gone over, and converted himself. In the closing stages of the game, the insurance men made desperate efforts to gain the lead, but the lawyers were able to keep them out till the final whistle went, with the score 13 all. Referee; Mr. L. Guiney. At the conclusion of tlie senior match tho cups which are competed for by tho teams were presented by Mr. H. Duncan, chairman of the Auckland Fire and Accident Underwriters’ Association. IT. D. Gillespie (Law) and M. Noakes (Insurance) were the recipients for the seniors, and L. Paitry (Law) and 11. Potter (Insurance) for the juniors.
