ID—Masterton R.C. “I, 23—Poverty Bay Turf Club. 2G, 2S—Wellington R.C. US—Waverley R.C. Schooling at Headquarters There was some jumping at Elleislie this morning, but otherwise the work at headquarters was dull. Thursby and Adjuster went over the schooling hurdles, fencing carefully. Calithe and Adjuster were sent over the steeplechase fences «?n the flat; Calithe giving a flue display. Bizzaro made one or t\\*b faulty jumps, but should improve. Adjuster baulked at the second obstacle and was not persevered with. Promising Three-yea»’-old Although having only his second run this season, and his third start in all, False Scent ran a really good race against Eaglet in the Avondale < iuineas. He finished courageously under pressure, and with a forlorn task ahead of him, so that before the season is over he may be found playing even* a more conspicuous part on the Turf. He is by Hunting Kong, and he may be a Derby prospect. It will be remembered that Star Stranger opened his winning career when he won the Maiden at Wanganui as a three-year-old, so that it is possible that False Scent will vet come good and a worthy stable companion of the well performed Martian gelding. Mention of Star Stranger’s first win brings to mind the fact that in that race he downed a “racecourse certainty” in White Fang, whose Inexperienced rider fired the rac&~ away. At any rate they were a nice pair of maidens for the average class of nonwinners to bump tip against.
