ROTORUA TIME-TABLE
EFFORT TO SUIT TWO FACTIONS NOT YET FIXED (THE 8 UX’S Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, Monday. That the new rolling-stock for the Rotorua line would be slower than the old was denied this evening by Mr. H. H. Sterling, general manager of railways. Mr. Sterling said some facetious comment had been made to the effect that the new de luxe train now building at Otahuliu would average fewer miles an hour than did Stephenson’s “Rocket” of a century ago. He said there was no ground for that assertion, as no time-table had yet been announced. The matter was one he was now giving close attention. There were the conflicting interests of those who desired a speedy through service between the two centres and those who advanced local considerations. An officer was at present abroad making a study of time-table problems, and Mr. Sterling hoped to arrive at a solution which would be satisfactory to both parties.
