SATURDAY’S PLAY FINE DAY AND COLD WIND Golfing conditions were excellent on Saturday, when the day was tine, with The two qualifying rounds of the Auckland Golf Club’s championship and the first qualifying round of the junior championship were piayed at Middlemore. H. Plumtey and R. Kainger tied for the .t. C. Burns Memorial Cup. which goes to the player returning the best gross score. In the play-off over nine holes both players were again square, with J:* strokes each. The 17th and ISth holes were then p.ayed, and resulted in a win j for Flumley, who obtained a well-played 4 to his opponent’s 5 at the last hole. R. Rainger won the 36-hole net medal trophy with 157, S—HP. The best round of the day was one of ■ 74 returned by Dr. F. Macky in the afternoon. CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL The final of the senior championship of the Maungakiekie Golf Club was played at the Titirangi links between H. D. Brinsden and T. A. Goulding, the former winning at the thirty-eighth hole after a close contest. A strong wind from the south made good scoring rather difficult. Brinsden won the first hole and lost the second, after which he led by 3 up at the seventh, and 2 up at the ninth. Goulding, however, squared ! the match at the eighteenth. In the afternoon, Goulding started by winning the nineteenth, and maintained his lead until the twenty-fifth, and wafe all square at the turn for home. From then onwards he was 1 up until the thirty-second, which Brinsden won in 2. He also secured the next, which made him 1 up, and at the thirty-fifth was dor my 1. Goulding won the thirty-sixth with a four, and made the game all square. The thirty-seventh was halved in five.
