Playing more to form and in sustained fashion the Marlborough forwards were definitely superior to those of the Canterbury touring team which met defeat by 21 points to 15 in the final match of the tour. The Canterbury backs were nippier and handled more surely than the Marlborough rearguard, but the attacks were repeatedly broken up by the home spoilers. Favoured by the breeze, Canterbury took the lead in the first spell, scoring two unconverted tries to Marlborough’s unconverted try, but the game up to that stage was very tame. Marlborough’s advantage in the forwards was clearly demonstrated in the next session, when Canterbury was well beaten. Marlborough scored freely and had the visitors confined to their own territory for most of the spell. Marlborough repeatedly missed sure tries through minor infringements close on Canterbury’s line. In the first spell Bisphan and Jordan scored for Canterbury. and Phillips for Marlborough J. McDonald. Botham and Washington (■"*) scored for Nlarlborough in the second spell. Payne converting three. Watson. Maxwell and Ellis scored for the visitors, none of the tries being converted. WELLINGTON HARRIERS Press Association WELLINGTON. Saturday.
