EARTHQUAKE RELIEF
MAYOR’S FUND IS BOOMED BY RACE PROCEEDS TOTAL OVER £19,000 With the proceeds of the Auckland Trotting Club’s special meeting last month the Mayor of Auckland's earthquake relief fund has now reached the remarkable total of more than £19,000. As a result of the effort, together with a handsome contribution of £240 from the club's staff, the fund has benefited by an additional £5,061. It will be noted that the rebate of Government tax actually exceeds the net profit on the meeting. That the rebate was possible was due primarily to representations by the Mayor. Mr. G. Baildon. who persuaded the Prime Minister to have the tax re nitted. The following additional contributions were received at the Town Hall today:—
