Who’s Who on the Aorangi
The R.M.M.S. Aorangi arrived from Sydney this morning on her northward journey to Vancouver. Beautiful weather was experienced on the trip across the Tasman. Newcomers to Auckland were delighted with the run along the coast, and the loveliness of the harbour in the brilliant morning sunshine. Mr. Beaumont Smith, manager in New Zealand for J. C. Williamson (N.Z.) Films, returned from a business trip to Sydney. He was accompanied by Mrs. Smith.
Mr. B. R. Riley, assistant general manager of the Colonial Sugar Refining Company, is on his way to Suva, Fiji, on business connected with his company. Mr. E. S. Spragg, son of a well-known New Zealand journalist, is on the staff of the same company, and is on his way to the United States. Mr. E. J. Tait, a director of J. C. Williamson, Ltd., is a through passenger on his way to the United States, England, and the Continent. Mr. John Tait, another director of the firm, arrived on a business visit tc Auckland and Wellington.
After 15 years’ residence in Sydney, Mr. A. W. Boynton, accompanied by Mrs. Boynton and their daughter, are going on a holiday trip to United States. Mr. Boynton is manager of the Wylie Advertising Agency, with headquarters in the New South Wales capital.
A through passenger to the United States is Mr. C. Willsford, of Sydney. He is Nash car distributor for New South Wales and is making a quick business trip to the Nash factory. “We look on New Zealand as being more advanced than Sydney, judging by the number and class of cars being sold. Apparently you are very prosperous,” he says, “as you sell more cars per heard of population than over the Tasman.”
Six medical men, who have been attending the British Medical Conference in Sydney, returned this morning. They were: —Dr. and Mrs. Appleby, of Whakatane: Dr. and Mrs. J. Hall, of Whangarei; Dr. E. Williams, of Dunedin: Dr. and Mrs. H. Wilson, ot Auckland: Dr. M. Mackeitli, and Dr. and Mrs. Wallis.
Mr. E. W. Wing, manager of the traffic department of the Union Steam Ship Company at Auckland, returned after spending a month’s holiday m Australia. He was accompanied by Mrs. Wing.
Mr John Rennie, managing director of Fleming and Co., Christchurch, has been visiting Australia to investigate the prospects of this season s w heat ovon He says that it will be quite a good one. There will be sufficient = rain for Australia's needs and also for export. Australians, he says, are crumbling about wool prices because or the fail in values on the Home markets. Business generally is veryquiet, hut there is plenty ot building going ahead, both in Sydney and Melbourne.
