CANADIAN “MAT MAN”
WALKER SEEKING MATCHES IN N.Z. light-heavy champion A fair-haired, massive giant hailing from Canada, George Walker, ••mat man,” came to Auckland by the Aorangi this morning. He has a reputation which warrants his Quest for matches in New Zealand. Walker only recently went to Australia, and during three months’ stay there had four matches, of which he won two He claims to be one of the few men who has stood up to John pesek for eight rounds, whereas the heavy-weight champion generally put his opponents out in one round. Walker has had more than passing acquaintance with “Farmer” Vance, who is now in Auckland. He took the Canadian iight-heavy-weight title from Vance, who previously held both championships. During his career Walker lias won !'S per cent, of his matches, including 11 successive clashes in New York and Boston. The hefty-looking Canadian says he tips the beam at 1861 b, and locks It.
