CONCERN IN CAVERN
BROADCAST BY IYA The novelty broadcast by station IYA from Cathedral Hall, Waitomo Caves, last evening, was a decided success. The accoustics of the cave gave less echo than might have been expected, and the transmission was little different from the usual studio concert. The difficulties to be overcome were stressed by Mr. A. E. Wilson, of the Tourist Department, who introduced the party. The greatest care had to be exercised in conveying the piano from the hostel along the rough track and into the cave itself. Mr. Wilson also described briefly the beauties of the three caverns. Well known performers at IYA gave the hour’s entertainment from Waitomo last night. The artists included Miss Millicent O’Grady, soprano; Miss Nina Scott, elocutionist; Mr. Len Barnes (station director), baritone; and Mr. Owen Pritchard, violinist. Mr. Cyril Towsey, the studio pianist, who played the accompaniments also contributed two solos.
