100,000 GAS BOMBS

SECRET DUMP FOUND IN BERLIN WORKMAN BREAKS FLASK While ground was being excavated for building in a Berlin suburb recently the workmen came upon a store of 100,000 bottles of tear gas, says the “Daily Mail.” One bottle, smashed by a pick before the find was realised, filled the surrounding area with gas in a few seconds. Many people were afflicted with sore eyes and nausea. Afterward the bottles were removed by firemen wearing gasmasks. In a later message it is stated that the 100,000 gas containers are each about eight inches deep. They had been buried in and near a pond, which was later filled in to form part of a housing scheme. There is no doubt that the secret (lump of tear gas had been laid down in war-time, and its position had ceased to be recorded or known after the peace came.
