English Plays For New York

POSITION REVERSED Dondon’s theatrical entertainment is no longer drawn from New York. The position which existed last year has been reversed, and now New York managers are selecting many English productions for presentation in America. The first to be done will probably be John Galsworthy’s play “Exiled.’ It will he produced in N Sw York by Archibald Selwyn, who is also mak ing arrangements with C. B. Cochran for the production there on New Year’s Eve of “Wake Up and Dream.’ Another Cochran production to be seen in America is Noel Coward’s operette, “Bitter Sweet,” now running at His Majesty’s Theatre. William Mollison is to be responsible for American performances of Frank Vosper’s comedy “Murder on the Second Floor,” with a cast including British and American artists. Miss G .B. Stern’s play, “The Matriarch,” a dramatisation of het novel “The Tents of Israel,” will be given by Dee Shubert, with Constane Collier in the principal part. Another play which Mr. Shubert bas made arrangements to produce is Patrick Hamilton’s “Rope.”
