“INNOCENTS OF PARIS”
AT MAJESTIC SHORTLY Maurice Chevalier. “the idol of Paris,” as he is called, will make his debut in talkies in “The Innocents of Paris,” the fine talking and singing production which will be presented at the Majestic Theatre as soon as the R.C.A. phototone system is working thoroughly. The phenomenal success of Chevalier throughout the world may be judged from the following report in the New York “Morning Telegram.” “Maurice Chevalier, the French diseur, made his American debut at ‘Ziegfeld’s Midnight Frolic’ on Monday night. He was received with tremendous applause, many of those at the club having heard him in Paris. He sang in English and French, repeated two favourites of those who had seen him abroad, and created such a riot that finally his piano had to be rolled off the floor so that the rest of the floor show might continue. “For the first time since Ziegfeld reopened his roof-top rendezvous the floor show was completely paralysed, stopped dead still by a performer who had the power to end it there or to keep it on. That was a debut. “Chevalier, appearing in the face of tremendously enthusiastic advance reports, fulfilled all that had been predicted for him. He is a superb entertainer and an engaging clown. He is heartily recommended to you. and w'ith the combination of the Ziegfeld after-theatre dancing place there is no finer later-hour entertainment in New York.”
The entire action of the film, “Innocents of Paris,” is laid in the Picturesque Flea Market district of Paris, and in adidtion to Chevalier 41 actors speak. t
