Fashions and Sunshine at Avondale

Sunshine tempered the chill winds today at the Avondale course, when many patrons gathered for the first day of the Avondale Jockey Club's spring meeting. Spring not having actually arrived, fur coats still held sway, though a hint of future modes was prophesied in the gay scarves and dainty ensembles; lighter springlike frocks peeping from beneath warm wraps: Browns seem to be giving way to brighter colours, which is just as it should be when sunny days arrive. Mrs. Stephen Hunter wore black cloth fur trimmed, and beige bangkok hat with black eye-veil. Mrs. Rainger wore a black hat with coney seal coat and skunk collar and cuffs. Mrs. R. Johnston wore a cocoa brown crepe de chine gown under her marmot coat, brown felt hat. Miss D. Farquhar wore a canary yellow felt hat and scarf with musquash coat. Miss L. Atkinson was in a smart black ensemble. Miss Molly Mitchelson wore navy blue ensemble with, fur wrap and wine red felt hat. Miss Biddy Philcox chose a ' smart plantation brown ensemble with fur coat and brown felt hat. Mrs. Rex Hayes wore a cigar brown costume with brown hat to tone. Miss Joan Carrick Robertson's smart tweed suit was worn with a chic wine felt hat. Mrs. Ryan wore navy with marmot coat and a black hat.
