SIX MONTHS’ GAOL FOR WOMAN REFUSED TO GO TO PAKATOA “According to the probation officer’s report you have been leading a disreputable life, and the worst feature of all Is that you had a little child with you all the time.” \yira this comment Mr. P. K. Hunt, S.M., sentenced Myra Webster at the Police Court this morning to six months’ imprisonment. The magistrate remarked that the woman had been indulging in both drugs and drink. Webster had been remanded on a charge o{ breaking the terms of her probation order. This morning the clerk of the court produced a copy of the criminal records at Christchurch, in which it was stated that, after counsel had admitted the breach on her behalf, the woman had been sent to Auckland to be dealt with on the original charge of false pretences. She had been placed on probation by the late Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., In 1925. Webster asked for a chance, adding that she would go into the country. The magistrate reminded her that she had refused the chance to go to Pakatoa.
