FIRST-OF-SEASON SHOOT From Our Own Correspondent TE AROHA, Thursday. There was an excellent attendance at. tho Te Aroha Showgrounds on Wednesday afternoon when visitors from Matamata and Morrinsville participated in the Te Aroha Gun Cluo’s first practice shoot of the season. Save for a strong nor*-westerly wind, which carried tne birds a good distance, the conditions were ideal, and the contest took place in bright sunshine.
Tho shoot of the afternoon was for a trophy presented by Mr. J. B. Johnson. This event attracted no fewer than 18 entrants, and was won by Mr. A. Aitken..
Tho president of the club, Mr. S. Davies, presented the winner with a handsome silver cruet, and congratulated him on his fine performance. Mr. C. Clarke acted as. scorer, while Mr. W. Everitt made an excellent “puller” at tho trap. Details of the shoots are as under:— No. 1 Sweepstake, G birds, single rise.— E. Green, G birds (17yds) handicap; A. Aitken, o birds (lfcycis) handicap; A. Johnson, 4 birds (12yds) handicap. .No. 2, Trophy Snoot, 8 birds, single rise.—A. Aitken, 8 birds (16yds.) handicap; E. Green, 7 birds (18yds) handicap; 3. .Parlour, 7 birds (lßydsj handicap. No. 8 Sweepstake, 5 birds, single rise. —E. Green, Goidsbury and Johnson tied, ca.cn having 5 birds to his credit, in Hie final snoot-off, however, E. Green NY Oil. TAURANGA ROWING The report presented at the annual meeting of the Tauranga Rowing Club on Wednesday evening showed that the past season had been very successful in every respect. The balance sheet showed a credit of £ls and an excess of assets over liabilities of £296. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follow: Patron, Dr. J. B. Mac Diarmid; president, Mr. D. A. Ivory; vice-presidents. Dr. T. Stuart and Messrs. R. H. Cazalet, C. M. Clench. C. T. Clinkard. R. R. Randle, E. E. Hammond. W. S. Harris. J. Neal, M. A. Stewart. A. Turner. S. Pemberton. S. G. Willcock. W. A. Paterson, B. C. Robbins. PI. Swann. S. O. Guinness. R. C. Clarke. E. J. Allely, L. Armitage. J. A. Jordan and J. Padlie; captain. Mr. C. Haua; deputy captain. Mr. W. Turner; secretary. Hr. R. Mirrielees; treasurer, Mr. S. Ibbetson; auditor, Mr. B. P. Andrews; general committee, Messrs. C. Haua, W. Turner, R. Mirrielees, S. Ibbetson, C. Tonkin, G. Denniston, F. Bickers, C. Cameron, B. Riggir, N. Campbell. G. Butler; Selection Committee. Messrs. C. Haua, C. Tonkin, W. Turner: coach, Mr. C. Tonkin; judge, Mr. W. S. Harris. The donation of cups by Mr. O. Butler and Mr. W. S. Harris, and a set of cups by Mr. J. Berridge, for club races, was announced. Messrs. C. Tonkin and R. T. Goulding were elected life members. The presentation of trophies won in the past sen son was made by the president, who also presented W. Turner with the New Zealand championship blazer and cap.
