SOCIAL EVENING

OTAHUHU RETURNED SOLDIERS There was a large attendance of members and friends of the Otahuhu Returned Soldiers' Social Club at an enjoyable social evening, held in the Kingsford Hall, Otahuhu, on Wednesday evening. A verv enjoyable programme of dance numbers was provided by Messrs. W. Joyce. J. Ayers, J. Douglas and W. Dinnison. A couple of extras were played by ilesdamcs Viney and Wheeler. Between dances, musical items were given by Mr. G. W. Venables and Mrs. Wheeler A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr. and Mrs. M. Fearnley, and a spot waltz was won by Mr. Edelsten and Miss Kitto. The duties of master of ceremonies were carried out by Mr. A. McLaren and during the evening the president, the Rev. C. 13. W. conferred an honorary life membership of the club on Dr. A. M. Ross, and spoke in eulogistic, terms of the excellent work done by the recipient, who had given eminent service to the returned men of the district. On behalf of the ‘ diggers” of Otahuhu. Papatoetoe and Manger© he wished the doctor every success and happines for the future. In replying Dr. Ross acknowledged the honour which had been conferred on him, and said that he had done no more than any other man would have done and his only desire had been to help those who had suffered.
