Baskett. j The .hall was effectively decorated with flags and streamers, small tables bright with daffodils and iceland poppies being placed about the room, giving a very friendly and congenial atmosphere to the whole. The stage looked most attractive with its archway of roses and butterflies, palms in big bowls of terracotta making a pleasing foreground. Nil*. G. Winstone, sear., in an opening speech, heartily welcomed all present, referring to the way in which the firm had grown since 186:3, much of this success being attributed to the work of the staff. Mr. George Winstone, junr.., then spoke briefly, explaining that as in every large business it was impossible for much personal contact between members of the firm and the staff, the present opportunity of meeting them all had been sought. Mr. England, president of Winstone's Employees’ Association, and Mr. Alexander, replied on behalf cf the staff, Mr. England emphasising the desirability of unity and co-operation between employer and employee. An excellent programme had been provided, solos being given by Mr. Bellam and Mr. Phillips, and an amusing sketch by Messrs. Galloway and Simpson. Mr. Alan McElwain’s humour was as sparkling as ever, and Mr. Holdsworth gave a laughable impersonation. Bright and pleasing music was supplied by the Rendezvous Quartet. Miss Allen being at the piano. All four are members of the staff. During the evening a delightful supper was served, affording a pleasant interlude for conversation. Mrs. George Winstone, junr., received the guests in a frock of embroidered almond green georgette, worn with a coatee of forest green handmade lace. Mrs. F. Baskett received in a navy georgette frock, embroidered in gold and finished with gold lace. Mrs. Percy Winstone wore cerise silk embroidered with silver. Mrs. F. Winstone was in a frock of black charmeuse with an overdress of french lace. Miss Winstone was wearing apple green silk georgette, with beaded design in silver. Miss Hilda Winstone had chosen blush rose georgette, with a crepe de chine shawl in primrose and mauve shades. Miss Gregory wore oriental silk with uneven hemline, and a wrap of beige georgette, fur trimmed. Mrs. H. England had on a frock of beige georgette, accordion pleated, with cinnamon trimming. Mrs. Duncan McDonald was in salmon georgette, with black silk wrap. Mrs. R. H. Potter had chosen saxe blue crepe de chine trimmed with gold and cerise. Other guests included: Mrs. H.
