Farmer Disappears No trace has been found yet oC Mr. Kenneth MacDonald, who disappeared from his home on September 9. Mr. MacDonald, who is 52. is a farmer at Te Kowhai. Accosted Girls Said by Sub-Inspector McCarthy to have accosted girls and called out after them in Karangahape Road. Charles J. Jones, who did not appear, was fined £1 and costs in the Police Court this morning. He admitted to the police having had two glasses of wine. * * • Fire at Herne Bay A fire which broke out in an unoccupied six-roomed, wooden house in Street. Herne Bay, at 11.30 this morning was attended by the City Fire Brigade. One room and a kitchenette were damaged by the flames, which were easily suppressed by the brigade. The owner, Mrs. Abbott, is in Wanganui. Hororata Delayed The New* Zealand Shipping Company’s steamer Hororata was to have left Auckland at 7 o’clock this morning for New York. Boston. Halifax and London, but owing to two flremon being missing, she had to anchor in the stream until two new' men were secured. Shortly after 9 o’clock two men were signed on the ship's articles, and the vessel left her anchorage at 10.10 a.m. Motor-van in Flames A fire which broke out in the back of a closed motor-van this morning in Pupuke Road. Takapuna. at 11.15. resulted in the woodwork being damaged. The Takapuna Fire Brigade was summoned and quickly extinguished the flames. The engine of the van. which is owned by Buckley and McGarvey, carriers, of Devonport. was undamaged. Fined for Mischief Baffled in her efforts to enter a shop, Violet Caslimore's way out of tlie difficulty was to break a window. When she was charged in the Police Court this morning with wilful damage to the window. Mr. R. A. Singer entered a plea of guilty. Combatants fined ; Fighting in Quay Street last evening resulted in Allan Kirkwood and Ralph Martin By field appearing nt the Police J Court this morning. Kirkwood. a J cabinet-maker aged 21. pleaded guilty to fighting, but Byfield, a fireman aged j 35, did not appear, having been bailed j in the sum of £2 10s. ! Kirkwood pleaded guilty and Con- ; stable Hanna said that there was no doubt that the men had been fighting. ) The time was about 6.25 p.m. Byi field was ordered to forfeit his bail ! and Kirkwood was fined £ 1 He asked for time to pay but n feminine voice from the back of the court offered to settle for him immediately.
