Attempted Murder Charge British Wireless — Press Ass.-k —Copyright Received 9.45 a.m-. SYDNEY, Today. DETECTIVES yesterday arrested a man in connection with a robbery at RozeUe on September 14, when a constable was shot. During the chase, the robber dropped a spectacle-case, and this led to his arrest, for the case bore a clue in the embossed name of a New Zealand makei^

A cable message was sent to the New Zealand police asking them to interview the optician who supplied the glasses and ascertain the identity of the owner. The return cable gave the name of a man who had served a sentence in New Zealand. He is an Australian with a record here. Yesterday, the police saw the man, and to allay his suspicions one simulated drunkenness as the suspect was approached. He was arrested, and charged with shooting Constable Grinham with intent to murder him. The robbery referred to was one o£ three sensational hold-ups in one night by armed desperadoes. At the Sydney suburb of Rozelle, a bandit,

who had held up the proprietor of a store and stolen £2O, was chased by the police. A revolver duel followed in which a dozen shots were fired. Constable Grinham * was shot through the groin, and taken to hospital. His assailant escaped, though posses of police searched the districts throughout the night. Earlier, a postal official at Ryde had been bailed up in the post office and robbed of £4 at the point of a revolver. An abortive attempt was made to open the safe. At Glebe, an hour later, a shopkeeper resisted an armed man who had demanded money. The desperado ran away. It was believed that all the outrages were the work of the same gang.
