PLEASURE TOUR

TIMARUVIANS’ LONG JAUNT GERMANY’S PROGRESS Sunburned and looking very fit as a result of 16 months’ wandering over Great Britain and the Continent, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Stockdale, well-known Timaruvians, were happy to be back again in the Dominion when they arrived on the Port Melbourne from London this morning. Leaving New Zealand 12 months ago last May, Mr. and Mrs. Stockdale embarked on an extensive pleasure tour, which embraced Germany, France, Italy and Spain, Britain and Ireland. Travelling through Germany the couple noted the remarkable manner in which the country was rehabilitating herself industrially and commercially. The big industrial plants were working at high pressure, producing goods extraordinarily cheaply to meet the competition in other countries on ail equal footing. The tourists, however, concentrated rather ou pleasure seeking and sightseeing than inquiring into the economic positions of the countries which they visited, and found much in the beauties of the continental resorts to fill their desires. Mr. and Mrs. Stockdale are leaving Auckland shortly for Dunedin, thence to their home in Timaru.
