MISSION TO SEAMEN
concert; for naval men A new departure was made this week by the PTying Angel Mission to Seamen. when a concert pafty was taken by the chaplain, the Rev. H. K. Vickery, to the Naval Depot, Devonport. It is customary to conduct four evening concerts a week in the mission rooms on this side of the harbour, and the visit to the dockyard was an innovation. A large number of men from the Diomede and the Philomel assembled in the navy’s recreation hall, where an enjoyable programme of musical and elocutionary items was presented. Mr. Vickery presided. The naval chaplain, the Rev. G. T. Robinson. welcomed the artists, and extended thanks on behalf of the men. The artists were subsequently entertained on the Philomel by the ship's officers. Mr. Vickery hopes future concerts may be given for the naval men. Since the mission has moved nearer the waterfront, from Emily Place to temporary quarters in the Navy League rooms the attendance of seafarers has more than doubled.
