PROSPECTORS ATTACKED

TREACHEROUS NEW GUINEA TRIBESMEN BATTLE WITH HEAD-HUNTERS SYDNEY, Wednesday. The members of a party of goldseekers who arrived at Sydney today from Papua tell a stirring story of their adventures while prospecting in the Tauri River region. The way was difficult. It led over towering limestone mountains. Though the natives were outwardly friendly really they were hostile. One party was compelled to fire on the natives, who frequently left bunches of arrows in the white men’s path as a sign that they were to turn back. Some Kukuku tribesmen, who are head-hunters, made two attacks on the prospectors’ camp, but were repelled.
