TAUMARUNUI BRANCH Mrs. King was in the chair at the i monthly meeting of the Taumarunui ; Plunket Committee, others present being Mesdames Hutton, Holford, Richter, McLennan, Norton, Park. Powell, Ford, Worrall, Miss Burnand and the secretary, Miss M. Tomlinson. Mesdames Jefferson, Johnston, Gibbs, Anderson, Conlan and Hall forwarded apologies for non-attendance. The report of Nurse Fraser for the month showed that the position in the committee’s district was satisfactory. The nurse had paid 205 visits to private homes and 114 to the office. There had been a great deal less sickness among both mothers and babies during the month, and babies which had required special treatment were responding satisfactorily. It was resolved that Miss Scanlon be appointed permanent Plunket nurse for the district, her duties to commence in October. WHIST DRIVE ; NORTHCOTE BOWLERS ORGANISE PARTY FOR CLUB FUNDS I In order to raise funds, the Waite - mata Bowling and Ladies’ Croquet Club held another of its series of popular whist drives in the Palais Theatre, Northcote, last evening, A large number of patrons were present, and keen competition ensued. The following were the prize winners:—Women, Mrs. A. Oldbury and Mrs. F. Mitchell; consolation. Mrs. R. Bethwait. Men, Mr. I>. Brown and Mr. F. Brown; consolation, Mr. L. Nicholson. ODDFELLOWS DECORATE WITH RED, WHITE, BLUE AND GOLD ! _____ I PAPAKURA LODGE The annua! dance of the Loyal Papakura Lodge was held on Tuesday evening in the Paragon Theatre. There was a good attendance of members and visitors from surrounding lodges. The, hall was charmingly decorated in the colours of the order, blue, white, led and gold. Delightful music was played by Walker’s Orchestra. The M.C.’s were Bros. W. Smith, J. Stabler and A. Slessor. The following lodges were represented;—Loyal Drury, Manure.wa; Good Intent, Howiek; and Gisborne; also Papakura Rebekah Lodge and Star of Papakura, 1.0.0. F. Lodge. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Hegh and Mr. Andrew. The spot waltz was won by Miss Stokes and Mr. Atkinson. BRIDGE EVENING
SPRING FLOWERS LEND THEIR FRAGRANCE FOR KINDERGARTEN FUNDS A delightful bridge evening was held on Tuesday at Penmoria, Garden Road, Remuera, the residence of Mrs. W. Perkins, the object being to raise funds for St. James's Kindergarten, Grey Lynn. Lady Carrick Robertson and Mrs. W. Perkins were the organisers. The rooms were beautifully decorated, spring; tones prevailing in the yellow of big; trumpet daffodils, purple irises, anemones and arum lilies. Bright fires lent a congenial glow to the scene. In the supper and billiard rooms, bowls of Iceland poppies gave a charming effect, the entrance hall being also bright with flowers and massed foliage. Lady Carrick Robertson wore a frock of white and black georgette, with diamente embroideries. Mrs. Perkins was in black georgette over pink satin, the tucked skirt and bodice being appliqued with flowers in pastel shades. The shoulder was caught with a pink rose. Mrs. J. F. Wright was wearing apple green georgette, with frilled panels and spray of pastel roses on the corsage. Among those who were present were: —Dr. and Mrs. W. H. Parkes, Dr. and Mrs. C. E. ENJOYABLE EVENING HOLY TRINITY SOCIAL CLUB There was a good attendance of members and friends at the fortnightly social evening of the Otahuhu Holy Trinity Social Club, held in the Parish Hall on Tuesday evening. A delightful programme of dance music was supplied by the club’s orchestra, under the leadership of Mrs. F. Andrew. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss M. Andrew and Mr. A. F. G. Falkner. The 500 tournament was won by Miss Sheld, 2,220, and Mr. H. G. White, 2.170. The successful competitors were presented with their trophies by Miss B. Walker, secretary of the club. A dainty supper was served by the women’s committee. The club will pay its annual visit to the Pukekohe Club on Saturday.

GIFT EVENING j PARTY FOR BRIDE-ELECT j MUSIC AND DANCING A very enjoyable gift evening j was given recently by Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Dowsing, of Ascot Flats, ; Auckland, to Miss Berta Milne and i Mr. VV. Trebilcock, who are shortly ; to be married. The evening was spent in dancing and games. Several musical items were given by Miss B. Milne and Messrs. H. Crafts and C. E. Bowsing, with Mrs. Crafts at the piano. The young couple were the recipients of many useful presents. Mrs. C. E. Bowsing received her guests wearing a gown of rose georgette with shawl to tone, while Miss Milne chose a frock of black georgette. Among those present were: Mrs. Milne, who wore black crepe de chine and lace frock; Mrs. H. Bowsing in a gown of ring velvet, -with uneven hemline: Mrs. E. H. Blakey, who chose an ankle-length frock of flame embossed georgette; Mrs. M. Coulam, wearing beige silk marocain; Mrs. R. Dawson, who wore a frock of gold bengaline silk. Mrs. H. Crafts, in sea-green crepe de chine, relieved with spray of roses; Miss Alys Bowsing, wearing powder-blue crepe de chine; Miss Gladys Coulam, who chose black satin, with shoulder sprav: Miss E.
