Reports on the water supply taken over the past three years revealed that some extra pollution was taking place in the spring and it was decided to take precautions to prevent a recurrence. Franklin Road metalling is to be undertaken before the commencement of the winter. The action of the Town-planning Committee in refusing to issue a permit for the erection of an Orange Hall in Queen Street was approved. In reply to a request for an explanation of the grounds of refusal, the council decided to state that the building, on account of restricted space, would have to be erected along the front boundary and as a result would detract front the appearance of adjacent residences. However, if additional land were acquired and the building erected on the same alignment as the residences little difficulty would be experienced In the issue of a permit.
