A meeting of motorists and local body representatives today discussed tho Government’s proposals regarding the Main Highways Funds, and carried a resolution protesting against the withholding of the annual grant of £200,000 from the Public Works Fund and £ 35,000 from the Consolidated Fund, as being opposed to the spirit and intention of the Main Highways Act, and the agreement between the motorists and the Government. The meeting held that the withholding of the grant would curtail the board’s roading programmes and deprive both local bodies and motorists of their just benefit.
