£1,740 FOR NEW CHURCH
SUCCESSFUL COMPETITION A popular girl competition organised by the women’s committee of St Michael’s Roman Catholic parish’, Kemuera, has proved a magnificent success, a total amount of more than £1,740 being raised toward the erection of a new church building. The victory of Miss Elva McDonald was announced at a concert held in the Newmarket Municipal Hall on Tuesday evening to mark the end of the contest. The parish priest, Father Bradley, announced that Miss MacDonald had received 70,467 votes, representing a total sum of £S33 13s 4d, Henley being second with 40,3-. o votes, representing £513 11s 4d, and JMiss Kathleen O’Leary third with 34,703 votes, representing £392 16s lid. Father Bradley congratulated the three girls and handed each a souvenir.
