BRICK AMALGAMATION
INCREASE IN PRICES QUESTION IN HOUSE (THE SUX'S Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. An allegation that a rise in prices had followed the amalgamation of brick and tile companies was made by Mr. R. McKeen (Wellington South) in the House of Representatives this evening. Mr. McKeen asked what the Government proposed to do in the matter. The Minister of Industries and Commerce, the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, said his officers were not aware that unreasonable prices were being charged. However,.Ahe department was watching the position, and had power to act if necessary. - = ■ “To say that the officers of. the department do not know what is going on is sheer hunkupi,” retorted Mr. McKeen. He suggested a select committee should be set up to investigate the position.
