“RIO RITA”
CONTINUED SUCCESS Colour, tuneful numbers and bright comedy continue to attract large audiences to St. James Theatre, where “Rio Rita” is holding a very successful season. With the story set in Mexico, just across the Rio Grande, there is splendid opportunity for vivid colouring and this has been fully taken advantage of. With a strong and very capable ballet often in action the stage is almost continuously a whirling blaze of colour. Headed by Miss Gladys Moncricff, whose singing is one of the features of the show, a strong company puts over an excellent performance. Miss Janette Gilmore, whose eccentric dancing and clever comedy never falls to draw the house, is another strong member of the cast. The comedians. Messrs. Mallen and Norman, are responsible for numerous bright moments, particularly in the supper scene where some really excellent fooling is put across. Leslie Pearce, captain of Texas Rangers, makes a manly hero and in conjunction with Miss Moncrieff appears in most of the best numbers of the play. A strong chorus and a wellbalanced orchestra put the finishing touches on a very tine show.
