Trotting Limits Must be Allotted
ASSOCIATION DECIDES As the result of a general discussion at the recent meeting of the New Zealand Trotting Association, clubs in future will be required to 'fix a limit for a>l handicap events scheduled. In the past, many clubs, catering for tlie slower classes, have not placed any time restrictions on some of the scheduled events, with the result liandicappers were often called upon to lix a limit at their own discretion. In referring to this question at the meeting of the association last week, Mr. J. R. McKenzie said the association should insist on clubs stating in their programmes the class of each and every race. Otherwise liandicappers had nothing to guide them, and with the handicapping system in operation it was a very necessary precaution to take. liandicappers should not bo allowed any latitude so far as the class of races was concerned, and this was a view supported by Mr. R. A. Armstrong, who favoured definite instructions being given to clubs on the question. Question of Loose Classes 1 Air. Kitchingham, who has always been a strong opponent of the handicapping system, said before making ! such a ruling very grave consideration should be given to the subject. Some clubs would require very loose classes, but members pointed out that however slow the class it should be stated. The Idea found a warm supporter in Mr. VV. Hayward, who said that class was every tiling under the new system, and the statement became an absolute necessity. Eventually a motion was carried to the effect that in future when submitting programmes to the board for approval, clubs would require to state the class of each race on the programme.
