PAPATOTOE TOWN BOARD
In submitting the quarterly report of the Papatoetoe Fire Brigade to the Papatoetoe Town Board last evening, the superintendent said the brigade had attended two fires, neither of which was serious. He urged the necesisty of having telephones connected direct to the superintendent’s house, until such time as a continuous service is installed. This was necessary, he said, owing to the difficulty of locating tires when the telephone service is closed. The Minister of Public Works promised consideration of the board’s application for assistance from the Main Highways Board for the interest and sinking fund on the loan of £6,000, in connection with the concreting of part of the Great South Road in the board’s district. The secretary of the Papatoetoe Town Board advised that in anticipation of the completion of the band rotunda, it had decided to hold an opening gala day on December 14. in the form of a garden fete and children’s sports meeting. It was decided to support the band’s proposal. Twelve tenders were received for the installation of 500 service connections from the water-mains to the property boundaries. The prices ranged from £729 12s 4d to £1,930. These were referred to Messrs. Jones and Adams, water engineers, whose estimate for the work was £7 50. The water engineer reported that the pump had been set in and was operating. The reticulation pipes had been tested from the water works to Pah Road. Water under low pressure was in the pipes up to the township. The chlorination plant was erected and ready for connection.
