PAKURANGA HUNT
FINAL MEET OF SEASON SPORT AT PUHINUI There was a good field at the final meet for the season of the Pakuranga Hunt, at Fuhinui, yesterday afternoon. The followers and a large number of visitors were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wills McLaughlin. The pack was successful in locating a number of hares, and some very enjoyable runs over the extensive estate resulted in three kills. The majority of the jumps encountered consisted of stone-walls, and the aboundance of undergrowth gave the quarries brief respite from the eager pack. The final run of the day provided the best sport. A hare was raised on the seaward side of the mountain and passing the homestead, with the pack in full cry, it travelled straight across country, and crossed tho road near the Wiri crossing. It continued on its course tiff nearing Manurewa, where it found shelter in a clump of bracken. The many vantage-points studded around the property were thronged by spectators, who were keenly interested in the day’s proceedings. At the conclusion of the meet, the field and visitors were entertained at afternoon tea by Mr. and Mrs. McLaughlin. Before commencing on the homeward journey, Mr. H. Bullock-Webster, master of the hunt, thanked their host and hostess for their hospitality, and said that it was very opportune that the final meet of the season should be held at the birthplace of the pack, where the hunt was always assumed of an enthusiastic welcome and plenty of hares. The property had been hunted over for over 40 years, and among those present at the function yesterday were Messrs. Adams and Selby, foundation members of the hunt. Among the followers were:—Mr. H.
