HAMS AND MONEY TAKEN
HYDRA BACON FACTORY RAIDED FOR FOURTH TIME CASH REGISTER EMPTIED Thieves broke into the premises of the Hydra Bacon Factory, College Hill, last evening, emptied the cash register, and stole two hams. The sum of £4 5s in cash was taken from the cash register. The hams were valued at 15s each. This is the fourth time the factory has been broken into. A few months ago the safe in the strong-room was dynamited and a large sum of money stolen. Mr. F. Harrison, proprietor of the factory, stated this morning that the thief or thieves must have visited the premises early and worked very quickly. He was roused before midnight by a constable who had found the door of the factory open. The office door, opening on to College Hill, had been forced with an iron bar. Nothing had been interfered with except the cash register, which had been emptied of its contents. “It was evidently the work of a man who was hard-up and hungry,” said Mr. Harrison this morning.
