A SECRETARYSHIP

Sir, — In reply io your correspondent, Mr. Herbert Mulvihill, I can only affirm that no matter what Air. Semple’s intentions were, the fact remains that in being: forced into the secretaryship he kept another man out of a job. To my -mind, for a Labour AI.P. to do this is under existing circumstances not playing cricket. Air. Semple is evidently the exception proving the rule that force is no remedy. First, he was forced into the job, and then forced against his wish to accept payment. Report states he was presented with a cheque for the nine months’ pay. Air. Semple is not the only man who dreams and sees visions. I often do both, especially the latter. “Blessed are you when men revile you.” may possibly apply to Air. Semple, whose castigation I await with equanimity. H. BIRCH CLARK.
