The election for two directors for the Kaitieke Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, resulted:—Central Ward: G. A. Stanton 161. R. G. Brooks 67. South Ward: G. Siswiek 104. W. Fursdon 70. J. Dempsey 18. The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the E. and B. Tennis Club. Ongarue:—Patron. Mr. H. Valder; president, Mr. A. H. Delaney; vice-presidents: Messrs A. B. Collier, A. E. McCracken. J. s. Awdrey and T. Maule: committee: Mesdames Grandison, Maule, Ludovicy, McCracken, and Messrs Meehan. Peifers, and Wiltshire; secretary and treasurer, Mr. D. J. McCracken; selection committee: Mrs. Meehan and Messrs. J. R. Miller and D. J. McCracken. The balance sheet showed a credit of £ls 13s sd. . Playing the final for the Herbert Smith Cup, the Taumarunui Primary School A. basketball team defeated Manunui A. by 16 points to 14, thus becoming the first holders of the trophy. A request from the settlers of the kawautahi district for assistance from the Kaitieke County Council for a bridge across the Retaruke river, giving access to Kaitieke and Owliango. has received favourable consideration, insomuch as the council has decided to vote £2O from the Owliango Riding funds for assistance toward the project. Further aid will be sought from the Public Works Department.
The first meeting of the newlyformed Ongarue Domain Board was presided over by the chairman, Mr. A. H. Delaney. The members are, Messrs Delaney, E. Coogan, E. P.Zander, D. J. Gardiner, L. Knight, IT. L. MacMillan, and J. Caird. Mr. Gardiner was appointed secretary and treasurer. The board inspected the various properties under its control, and a comprehensive plan of work was mapped out. to be put through as funds permit. Air. E. Coogan generously donated two sheep to replace a pair belonging to the board, which dogs had destroyed. At its last meeting the Taumarunui County Council considered a suggestion from the Public Works Department that power be given to that body to legalise and compensate where deviations for road formations were required on relief works, the council to reimburse the department in all eases. The county chairman, Mr. G. A. Stanton, was of the opinion that it would be too dangerous to give the Public Works Department carte blanche to do as suggested, and it was resolved that where deviations are required the county will agree to attend to legalisation and compensation costs itself. The Taumarunui Hospital Board having obtained the approval of the contributing local bodies, has resolved to proceed with the erection of an isolation block at the public hospital. Subject to the approval of the Health Department, Mr. A. S. Laird will be appointed architect for the building, and the hospital board will act as a works committee to supervise. Estimates for building in brick and in timber are to be obtained.
