GIFT AFTERNOON
MRS W. E. RICHARDSON HONOURS BRIDE-TO-BE MANY BEAUTIFUL PRESENTS Among Saturday’s Happy events was a gift afternoon given by Mrs. W. E. Richardson, of 9A Oliver Street, Remuera, to Miss Doris Smith, of Mount Eden, prior to her approaching marriage, MRS. RICHARDSON received her -*'*'*- quests wearing a gown of wedgwood blue, relieved with gold facings, and was assisted by her daughters. Miss Richardson wore black ring velvet, and Miss Alice Richardson was in cornflower blue georgette. Miss Doris Smith, guest of honour, had on a charming gown of beige georgette and lace and picture hat. Mrs. Percy Pye Smith wore navy georgette, with touches of fawn, and ballibuntl hat to tone. The large drawing and dining-rooms were a picture with bowls of Iceland poppies and spring bulbs. Very many beautiful gifts were brought to Miss Smith and a pleasant time was spent opening the parcels. Items were given by Madame Humphrey Steward, Miss Verna Wishart, Miss Gladys Hosking and Miss Dily Richardson. Among those present were:—Mrs. R Hmdernuch, Mrs. E. B. T. COMING-OF-AGE PARTY GAMES AND COMPETITIONS Aliss Grace Gibson was the guest of honour at a coming-of-ago party at the residence of Air. and Airs! F. Gibson, Alahoe Street., Tc Awamutu, recently. Several new and interesting games were indulged in. Aliss Gibson received many beautiful and useful gifts. Among the prize-winners during the evening were Alisses .7. Fleming and W. Gilbert, Air. R. WOMEN AND CHILDREN PROTECTION SOCIETY’S WORK The secretary reported to the monthly meeting of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children that during the period there had been 248 office interviews, 32 new cases being dealt with. Of this number 20 concerned differences between husbands and wives. The inspector had made 68 visits and had also attended tho Magistrate's and Children’s Courts on eight occasions. A resolution that the society support the action of the City Council in refusing sanction to the erection of one-room fiats in the City area was passed.
