BUS TO PUKEKOHE
HEAVY VEHICLE LICENSED 2Ti*om Our Own Correspondent PUKEKOHE, Monday. Holding that excessive damage would be caused to seven-ton bridges on the Drury-Pukekohe Road, the Franklin County Council, at a recent meeting, declined an application from W. J. Wheeler and Sons to run a bus weighing eight tons loaded, also an offer of £IOO a year toward maintenance of the road. A petition signed by 50 ratepayers and residents of the district through which the bus runs was received at today’s meeting. The owners again offered £IOO a year in addition to a similar sum for the strengthening of the bridges. After consideration it was decided to grant permission for the vehicle to operate for six months. An agreement restricting the maximum load to 29 passengers, speed to comply with the Motor Vehicle Regulations, the pace travelled over bridges, the safeguarding of the council, its indemnification against accidents, and provision that the payments shall not prejudice the payment of heavy-traffic licence fees, is to be drawn up between the council and owners of the bus.
