CONFERENCE OPENS IN PALMERSTON transport bill awaited Press Association PALMERSTON X., Today. The twelfth annual conference of the New Zealand Motor Trade Association in conjunction with the New Zealand W holesale Motor and Cycle Traders' Association, Limited, opened in Palmerston Xorth this morning. Mr. Bauchop, of Wellington, addressing the conference, referred to Palmerston Xorth as the birthplace of the association. There was concern about the future in that it was not known what legislation was to be brought forward by the Government, and the introduction of the Transport Bill was awaited with eagerness. Fair representation had been given on the Transport Advisory Committee. A feeling to be deprecated was that sometimes noticed between motorists and pedestrians. It was an old idea, but it persisted. The Mayor, Mr. A. J. Graham, accorded the gathering, a civic reception. The annual report showed the growth of the membership from G 45 in 1927 to 1,398 in 1929.

Officers were elected as follow: President, Mr. C. V. Clift, of Palmerston Xorth; secretary. Mr. J. F. Cousins, of 'Wellington: auditor, Mr. R. A. Fuller, of Palmerston North; councillors. Messrs. F. Holmes (Gisborne). H. Fox (Wairoa), R. Bell (Xapier). V. G. Clift (Manawatu), E. W. Mereweather (Wanganui), G. Hughan (Wairarapa), F. C. Milnes (Horowhenua), H. E. Avery (Wellington), G. W. French (Christchurch), C. W\ Wood (Timaru), F. Smallbone (Ashburton), H. J. Jenkins (Oamaru), J. X. Armour (Southland); tyre repre-
