MINING NEWS

OCCIDENTAL UNA.—The manager reports:—“Since my last report we have advanced the No. 2 slope south-east of the .Shaft on the Stockwork formation a further distance of S feet. The reef formatjapn will average about 4 feet in width. The quartz is very heavily mineralised and during the week colours of gold were to be seen in the quartz broken. In the stope north-west of the shaft the Stockwork will average about 6 feet in thickness, composed of quartz veins and country rock intermixed, which is sorted out for battery treatment. During the week strong colours of gold were to be seen in the quartz when broken. Crushing at the battery will be resumed during coming week.” ALBURN I A.—The manager reports:— ■ The drive north on main Orlando lode from crosscut at winze has been extended 6 feet, a total of 196 feet. The reef here still averages 3 feet wide, and is a strong body of stone, carrying nice mineral blend, antimony and silica. Colours of gold are seen in the ore. A start has been made to clean up the drive north on hanging wall branch of the Orlando lode, from the west crosscut, and as soon as completed a start will be made to continue the rise on the cross leader that came in from the west wall, which I think is either the Star of South leader or the Success leader. In the Whau level the drive north on dropper off main Sons of Freedom reef from crosscut east has been driven 3 feet, a total of II feet. A start has also been made to clean out the crosscut going hill ward from our rise, and in about 35 feet we should strike the main drive on Sons of Freedom reef, and if the crosscut is open to Dixon’s reef we should have better ventilation.”
