TARANAKI BEATEN

HAWKE’S BAY’S GREAT WIN Pj m ess Association NAPIER, Saturday. After leading to the last minute Taranaki today was beaten by Hawke’s Bay by 16 points to 14 in the hardest and most exciting game of the season. The visitors dominated the play in the first half, the backs especially being dangerous, and at half-time they led by 11 points to 0. Then in the last quarter the Hawke’s Bay forwards made a remarkable recovery and swept everything before them. The match was played on a hard ground in brilliant sunshine before a moderate attendance. The Hawke’s Bay forwards easily outlasted the Taranaki pack, but the visiting rearguard always required w’atching. Robinson retired with an injured shoulder and the bell sounded immediately.
