WOMEN’S FINAL
PAPATOETOE A V. WESLEY A Fast scoring, in a spectacular game of good, fast hockey, was witnessed m the women’s final, between Papa-* toetoe and Wesley, on Saturday. From the outset Papatoetoe adopted a policy pf direct attack, which it rigidly adhered to throughout the game. This coupled with its excellent combination, enabled it to win by a comfortable margin. Wesley’s tactics, which were more individual, were quite unsuceessiul against the superior combination of its opponents. Its vanguard lacked t ha t unity and penetrative ability which so distinguished the opposite side Many fine opportunities were nullified. either through lack of combination or overeagerness. The shining fight of the Wesley forwards was Miss Bathgate, whose dash and brilliance is worthy of mention. Miss Richards. Miss Snelling and Miss O’Hara w er© conspicuous in the Papatoetoe attack, their clever manoeuvring causing great entertainment for the gallery, and acute distress to the Weslev defence. Wesley fought heroically, but seemed to suffer from extreme nervousness, its performance much below that of previous times. Despite the predominance of Papatoetoe. many clever exchanges were witnessed, and on the whole a splendid performance was seen by the spectators.
