Griffiths, of Kelburn, is spending a holiday in Auckland and is staying at the Grand Hotel. * * * Mrs. Vivian Haszard, who has been the guest of Mrs. John Rentall, has returned to her home in Wanganui. Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Quillian, of New Plymouth, are at present in Auckland and are staying at Hotel Cargen. * * * Mrs. Percy Thomson and Miss Ray Thomson, who have been staying in Auckland/ have returned to Sydney. Mi's. Beckett, of Christchurch, who returned by the Aorangi from a several months’ trip abroad, left for her home in the South last evening. Mr. and Mrs. A. K. England, of Christchurch, are spending a few weeks in Auckland and are the guests of their daughter, Mrs. Norman Henley, of Ellerslie. Mrs. H. Irwell and Miss Enid Foster, accompanied by Mrs. David Nathan and Miss Jacqueline Nathan, left by car last evening for Wairakei, Taupo, Rotorua and Napier, en route for Wellington. Mrs. Irwell and her niece will go further South next week. A visitor to Christchurch for the New Zealand golf championship meeting this month will be Mrs. Fraser, wife of Captain Fraser, of Wellington. Mrs. Fraser, who is to arrive in the Dominion this week, has been a member of the Sunningdale Club in England, and has a handicap of 4. * * * Miss May Speirs, whose marriage took place on Wednesday in Christchurch, received congratulations and best wishes on behalf of the match committee of the Canterbury Dawn Tennis Association and the tennis members of the United Club, both of which made her a presentation on her marriage.

Many Dancers Attend the Click Clack The Click Clack was gay on Saturday. many new dance items being introduced. The distribution of balloons and masks caused much fun among the dancers. Mrs. Walter Rowan was wearing a charming frock of pale pink beaded georgette. Mrs. Derrick was in a frock of apricot georgette. Mrs. Eccles had on a frock of heliotrope taffeta and silver lace. Mrs. S. Beattie wore black georgette. Mrs. D. Smith-Curran was wearing a frock of black crepe fleuri, beaded. Mrs. H. Somers wore a pretty frock of eau de nil beaded in silver. Mrs. N. Smith had chosen a frock of peach georgette and blue lame. Miss Doris Tills wore apple green georgette. Mrs. Hayson was in black lace and gold lame. Mrs. E. ENTERTAINED BY MRS. COATES Members of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Federation of University Women were entertained by Mrs. R. J. Coates at her home in Epsom on Friday afternoon. The end of the school vacation made it possible for many members who are usually absent from Auckland during the term to be present, while among the guests were also several new members. Mr and Mrs Rex Carew Surprised at Home A MERRY EVENING Mr. and Mrs. Rex Carew were surprised at their home in Dilworih Avenue on Saturday evening by a cheery band of invaders. The party was planned by Mrs. Noel A£rey and Miss Janet Clarkson, but Mrs. Airey ‘was prevented by 'flu from joining in the fun. Spring flowers and log fires made the rooms look very attractive and the guests amused themselves with dancing and youthful frolics. Mrs. Rex Carew wore a frilled georgette frock of palest pompadour pink. Miss Janet Clarkson was in a plum coloured fringed georgette frock. Mrs. B Dougkis had on a gentian blue •eatin faille gown. Mrs. Trevor Brett’s draped gown was °f ivory satin charmeuse. Miss Nancye Martin wore a gown of beads geor^ette em broidered with crystal Miss Dot Wilson chose pastel pink beaded georgette. J > Miss Betty Jackson’s frock was of black taffeta and lace. Miss Marjorie Tiarks -wore a flowered moon frock and coatee. Miss Jean Lawford was wearing a powder blue Venetian lace gown. Miss Mary-Ann Gascoigne wore honeycoloured georgette, with a flounced skirt.

Beautiful Gowns Worn At Caharet-hy-the-Sea A large crowd of dancers attended Dixieland, on Saturday evening, and the charming frocking was particularly noticeable. Popular dance music was played by Mr. H. Neilson’s orchestra, this being much enjoyed by all. The Cabaret was delightfully decorated with spring flowers, bowls of freesias breathing perfume from tables and alcoves. AMONG THE DANCERS Mrs. E. Alison had on a picture frock of prettiest larkspur blue. Mrs. YV. Harvey had on a becoming frock of cuban orange taffeta and georgette. Mrs. A. Jones chose an eidelwiss blue * a Q® gown with relief of silver lame. Mrs. A. Bartley’s smart gown was silver and capucine brocaded metal cloth. Mrs. Bathgate wore an uneven length gown of copper-coloured ring velvet. Mrs. K. Hall chose gentian blue georgette with deep shadow.hem of fine silver Mrs. Gillies had on a. chiffon gown of apple green. Mrs. Albert Neville’s . gown of ivory satin was embroidered with silver paillettes. The lace gown of Mrs. Davis was of wedgwood blue. Miss Alison Laery wore a kingfisher blue brocaded coatee over her flounced frock of turquoise taffeta. Miss Biddy Philcox wore a smart gown of gold paillettes. Miss Joan Robertson’s pretty frock was of wattle tinted satin with bouffant skirt of tulle. A bow of gold tissue finished the frock at the waist. Miss Joy Bartley had on a lace and georgette frock with opalescent trimming. Miss Molly Bailey wore a close-fitting gown of silver paillettes. Miss Eva Soljak had on lilac satin beaute with skirt of matching georgette. Miss Molly Simmonds had on a black taffeta gown appliqued with roses. Miss Moira Goldwater was in a becoming sage green brocaded faille gown. Miss Veenie Henley was in pastel pink chiffon with a gracefully dipping skirt. Miss Rita Henley wore a spray of natural flowers on the shoulder of her phlox pink georgette gown. Miss Phyllis Macindoe wore black polka-dotted net over flesh pink chiffon. Miss Anita Sutherland had on a becoming frock of cameo pink georgette. Miss Rona Suisted’s smart lace gown was of daffodil yellow. Miss Thelma Ogilvie wore ivory chiffon over satin charmeuse. Miss Edna Gill wore printemps green chiffon and tulle, with french appliqued motifs in pastel shades. Miss Nan Johnson had on peach pink georgette and lace. Miss Joyce Stewart’s frock was of forget-me-not blue georgette. Miss Ruth Wake’s frock of french blue georgette was embroidered with beads. Miss Eileen Freeman wore pompadour pink georgette and lace. Miss Rona Thomson wore a pretty frock of cameo pink chenille with petalled skirt of matching taffeta. Miss Nota Casey wore a blue beaded coatee over her ivory taffeta gown. Miss Anita Pagni was wearing a marigold satin gown. Miss Nancye Purdom was in camellia pink georgette. Miss Robson had chosen pastel pink satin and georgette. Miss P. Robson wore an uneven length gown of apricot satin with chic shoulder tie. Miss Rene Wilson was w’earing a black georgette gown embroidered with silver beads. Miss Tinker Jackson wore black chiffon velvet with deep decolletage. Miss Rita Cornaga had on ivory georgette embroidered with silver beads and paillettes. Miss Mac Duff had on a black gown of satin faille and ring velvet. Miss Spencer had on a pale green cyclamen lace gown. Miss Arthur wore cream lace over ivory chiffon. Miss Jackson was in a "black ring velvet gown. Miss Mollison’s frock of silver lace was worn over flesh pink georgette. Miss Roscoe was wearing water nymph green chiffon. Miss Cassidy chose ivory frilled taffeta with gracefully dipping hemline.
OTAHUHU ORANGE LODGE
ANNUAL FUNCTION The 53rd annual social, held by the Otahuhu Loyal Orange Lodge, No. 14, in the Otahuhu Public Hall on Saturday evening, was a very successful function. Representatives were present from the friendly societies and the Masonic Lodge. Music was supplied by a 'speech amplifier provided by Messrs. Geehan and Giles, and Mrs. Andrew's Orchestra. The duties of masters of ceremonies were carried out by Worshipful Bros. Carr and Markwick and Bro. Kitto. The hall was prettily decorated with coloured streamers and greenery, and the supper tables w£re decked with streamers and spring blooms. Between dances musical items were given by Mr. G. WE Venables, vocal solo; Mrs. Hawkes, vocal solo; Mr-. Norman Tait, conjuring act; Miss McLaughlan, fancy dancing, and selections by the Otahuhu Mandolin Band. Wor. Bro. Carr extended a cordial welcome to the large gathering of members and visitors.
