ENGINE HITS JIGGER
RAILWAY INSPECTOR IN CRITICAL CONDITION CRASH NEAR WAIHI (Special to THE SUN) Shocking injuries were received by Mr. R. J. Perry in a collision with a train on the permanent way between Anthenree and Waihi. The accident occurred at midday. Mr. Perry is an acting-inspector of permanent ways on the Tauranga sector of the East Coast railway. He was travelling on a motor jigger from Anthenree to Waihi. A train which left Frankton Junction this morning for Tauranga crashed into the jigger, and threw the vehicle and Mr. Perry off the line. He is now in the Waihi Hospital suffering from a compound fracture of the skull, and bones are broken in the right br.easjt, tlie leg leg is broken in two places and the right leg has a single and a compound fracture. His left hand was also crushed. He is not expected to recover. Mr. Perry must have struck the engine with terrific force. Few particulars of the accident are available, but it is surmised that the collision took place on a curve of the line.
