HOW TO INCREASE CROP RETURNS
■With Cladosporium and other disuses and insect pests due to make their appearance shortly, growers should now be taking every precaution against attack upon their crops. Every e/tort should be made to have the nlants well ahead and sturdily grown, for experiments have shown that the more robust and hardy the plants, the greater the capacity of resistance against all disease germs and other ravages. Both as a provider of plant food, and as an insecticide and germicide, one product in particular has been found to possess remarkable qualities. This peculiarly enough is a product of N'ature—White Island Product Mo. 1. As to proof of its efficacy, the following extracts from a report by Mr. W. H Bice, chief orchard instructor, Auckland, prove particularly interesting: "The plants made good establishment throughout the whole period of growth, * nc i were more robust than those where this product was not used. The favourable growth was characterised s touter stems, larger leaves, broader and denser foliage, with an absence of crinkle at the edge, and firm and more uniform fruits This favourable growth continued to resist Cladosporium after other plants were attacked. "Vo plants were lost from the ravages of insects during establishment, as against a loss of 12 per cent, in untreated land.
