STOCK INSPECTORS TO SUPERINTENDENTS
(THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, Wednesday.
It is not possible for stock inspectors in the Agricultural Department to become district superintendents of stock, according to a reply given by the Minister of Agriculture (the Hon. G. W. Forbes) to a question on the subject by Mr. AY. J. Broadfoot (YY aitomo).
“The good work being done by the senior inspectors in the Live Stock Division is realised and appreciated.” replied the Minister. “The major portion of the duties of a district superintendent consist of the control and direction in the district of (a) the work associated with animal health and disease, together with advisory services to farmers in connection therewith: (b) the inspection of meat for export and for local consumption: (c) the inspection of dairies and dairy cows supplying cities and boroughs. “Hence it is necessary that the officer entrusted with these responsibilities be one possessing technical knowledge of a high standard, as well as administrative ability. These circumstances necessitate a reply in the negative.” -
