A.A.A. MEMBERSHIP INCREASE OF 5,000 ANNUAL REPORT The membership of the Auckland Automobile Association is now 11,148. During the past 15 months 4,972 new members have been elected. This information is contained in the report of the Auckland Automobile Association to be submitted at the annual meeting on October 9. Subscriptions in the 15 months returned £12,152, and 11 additional country agencies were established. Patrol officers were responsible for enrolling 2,189 of the members. The report states that all-weather links were completed in the following roads: —Kaeo-Mangonui, DargavilleKaihu, Dargaville-Ruawai, KirikopuniParakao, Maungaturoto-Kaiwaka, Te Hana-Wayby, Tauhoa-Warkworth, Dev-onport-Waiwera (via Albany), KumeuAlbany (via Riverhead), MatamataTauranga (via Kaimai), Tirau-Roto-rua, Kihikihi-Arapuni, WanganuiRaetihi, Te Awamutu-Kawhia, Gis-borne-Opotiki and Gisborne-Hicks Bay. In connection with the Prime Minister’s enterprise with the regular grant of £200,000 a year to the Highways Board, the report says:—“The motor associations will not rest until this injustice is put right. Up to the present time it is believed that this is the first instance of an act of this kind having been contemplated by a Government of this Dominion.” In connection with the activities of the service department, it is stated that 2,200 signposts and 80 depth posts were placed. During four months 81 members had availed themselves of the engineer’s services. The association’s solicitor had represented members in 267 cases under the free legal defence scheme.
