“RIO RITA” PROMISES RECORD SEASON
ANOTHER BIG HOUSE That bright and colourful musical comedy, “Rio Rita,” continues to at- ; tract packed houses at St. James. Last ; evening’s performance was greeted by , another enthusiastic audience which : expressed its appreciation in no uncer- ! tain manner. Haunting melodies, spectacular ensembles, good chorus work, clever . ballets and excellent comedv are the ingredients used in the making of ‘‘Rio Rita,” and the result is undoubtedly satisfying. Then there is the glorious singing of Miss Gladys Moncrieff and the remarkable dancing of Miss Janette CTilmore. With her eccentric dancing Miss Gilmore carries her audience completely, and her numerous appearances always awaited with eager anticipation of something new and highly diverting. Leslie Pearce-sings with ease and looks the part of a captain of the Texas Rangers. Mr. Lave Mallen and Mr. Charles Norman are responsible for most of the comedy and they obtain very satisfactory results. “Rio Rita,” “Was it a Dream?” and “Montezuma's Laughter” are numbers that, despite the popularity already achieved through the medium of the gramophone, still retain surprising freshness. But this, no doubt, is entirely due to the manner in which they are presented. “Rio Rita” radiates freshness and charm, features that will contribute to a record run for the comedy in this city.
