THAMES NOTES
Tho Tapu Flat (Thames Coast) which the settlers in the vicinity want for a recreation park, will be taken, under the Public Works; Act. if the owners and committee appointed to deal with the question cannot come to terms. The Minister of Lands has notified the committee that the Government will grant £350 for the purchase of the flat. The Thames County Council has instructed the committee to proceed with the purchase. The towmship of Puriri, situated between Thames and Paeroa, is to hay* the main road tar-sealed. The work will bo done by the Thames County Council. Mr. P. Everett, orchard instructor at Thames for the past 12 months, has been transferred to Rotorua as instructor in tobacco culture. The Thames County Council’s new' crushing plant is being shipped from England in the Port Hardy, and will reach New Zealand In November. A basketball tourney is being held at Thames on Sattirday. Two silver cups have been donated for annual competition, one for primary schools, and the other for senior grade. Thames golfers will pay a visjt to Paeroa on Saturday to play members of the golf club.
