CLEANING FORESHORE

REMUERA RATEPAYERS’ SUGGESTION

MANGROVES AT ORAKEI

The removal of mangroves from Orakei Basin and the cleaning of the foreshore are works suggested as a measure of relief for the unemployed by the Remuera Central Ratepayers’ Association. The proposal will be sent to the City Council. The association considers the works could be included under the Government grant for relief work. The Orakei Basin at present is practically dry and work would be aided. In five or six weeks, the flood gates to the basin are to be completed and water will be let in permanently. Support was given the proposal of an eastern traffic outlet made by Mr. G. T. Murray, honorary engineer to the Auckland Automobile Association. The outlet would be beneficial to Remuera and adjacent areas. A trial of flat-rate tram and bus fares will be suggested to the Auckland Transport Board.
