BODY IN HARBOUR
SUICIDE WHILE OF UNSOUND MIND A verdict of suicide while of unsound mind was returned by the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.. at an j inquest held this afternoon on the j death of Peter Hand, who was found drowned in the harbour on September j According to William Henry ! Harkins, he had seen the body lying I on the rocks at the eastern tide de- j flector at 3.30 p.m. on September 5. Witness had not touched the body, but had informed the wharf police. Francis James Connolly said that he had shared a room with Hands at No. 1 Beresford Street for the past three months. Witness understood that Hand was a labourer, from Cumberland. He was believed to have a wife andfamily in Queensland. The coroner read a letter indicating that the man had intended to commit suicide, being depressed through ill-fortune and family troubles. Mr. Hand was born in Moor Row, Cumberland. He was about 50 years of age, and an enginedriver. According to his brother-in-law, Joseph ! Nicholson, deceased had a wife and | five children living in Charters j Towers, Queensland.
