ELLERSLIE GALLOPS
GOLD MONEY IN FORM HYDE PARK READY FOR CUP "With all tracks showing an appreci- j able improvement since Tuesday’s gal- I lops, training operations at Ellerslie ' this morning attracted some interest, ! and several good efforts were recorded. Number one grass was at the disposal of trainers, while the course proper was available for two-year-olds. Gold Money was the first out on the grass, and the speedy daughter of Paper Money set the main for five furlongs, when she dashed over the ground in 1.4. She reeled off the last half-mile in 49 3-s—time that is very rarely done at Ellerslie at this time of the- j r ear. It was an impressive piece of work. Gem light and Alloy came home over half a mile in 51, and were practically together at the end. Sleepy Sol moved smoothly over a round in 1.58, and was under restraint. Two Avondale Cup candidates, Taneriri and King Emerald, were in company to go once round. They set a solid pace early, and were running on nicely at the end to return 1.56 1-5. Standfast was not bustled in running six furlongs in 1.24, while Welkne covered the last six of seven furlongs in 1.23 1-5. Dave slipped over five furlongs in 1.4 3-s—a pleasing gallop. Corinax was given an exercise gallop over half a mile, but was not after time. Currajong and Salamander were partnered for five furlongs in 1.7 4-5, and they were on terms at the post. Pleased The Critics v Hyde Park mad© a particularly fine showing when he led Zircon once round in 1.55, the last six furlongs in 1.22 3-5. The former was always hitting out strongly and was going away from Zircon in the last furlong. Myola. and Golden Wedding created a favourable impression by racing over four furlongs in 50 4-5. There was not much between them, and both were staying on at the end. War Officer, Good Idea and Kawainga were associated in a bout over half a mile, the first two finishing some lengths ahead of Kawainga, who was eased as the result of the girth giving way. The watch showed 52 1-4*. but Kawainga was revelling in her work with half the distance covered and would have registered better time but for the mishap. Gay Cockade and Spring Abbey ran five furlongs in 1.6 1-5 with the former doing it best. Eager Rose and Theodolite showed a lot of speed in the middle stages of live furlongs, which took 1.7, the last four in 52 2-5. Tetrarchate worked evenly over six furlongs, the last five in 1.14. Roman Pearl passed over half a mile in 52 2-5, and did it nicely. Diamond Queen and Bizzaro were asked for an effort extending to six furlongs, which they finished up almost together, in 1.20 2-5. Restaurant went a furlong further at threequarter pace. Wild Country showed to more advantage-. than Catona and Mon Star when this trio reached the end of six furlongs in 1.21 1-5, the initial two in 27. Measurer strode alone over half a mile in 51 1-5, and is obviously improving. Otranto wound up seven furlongs in 1.34 2-5, a fair indication of the speed she possesses. She is not too- solid, however. Kauri Park and Sir Archie disposed of a circuit in 1.59, Kauri Park displaying plenty of dash. Immediately the tracks were declared open a brace of two-year-olds came out for a flutter over half a mile. Hampton Park was at Grand Spirit’s girths when they jumped out, and the pair raced with that much between them for three furlongs, where Grand Spirit began to dra.v away, eventually having about a length and a half the best of matters at the end. For the first two furlongs 24 1-5 was registered; three in 27 1-5 and the half in 52. On the two-year-old track Chaiisonette sprinted half a mile in 54, but was easing up at the end of three furlongs. Over the Fences Bizarre (R. Olive) completed a lesson over two pony hurdles safely, but there was room for improvement. After jumping two pony hurdles Chesterman (E. Garrett) then essayed two of the bigger hurdles, his display affording every satisfaction. Master Clements (A. McGregor) led Adjustor <W. Nightingale) over four schooling hurdles at a fair pace. Both jumped pleasingly, the former in particular. Kamehamelia (McNeil) and Master Doon (Garrett) were joined by Thursby (Lilly) when they had negotiated two schooling hurdles and then the trio completed two more fences satisfactorily. TWO-YEAR-OLD PARADE (From. Our Oum Correspondent) WANGANUI, Today. Before the racing- at Wanganui began the two-year-old parade was held, the field being divided into two divisions. But, whereas there were a dozen runners in the first heat, there •were only half a dozen in the second. In the first heat Mr. V. Kiddiford's entries, Eminent (Belghton—Exclusive) and Lineage (Limond—Merit), who had drawn the inside positions at the barrier, led Mr. A- B. William’s pair. Cylinder (Limond—Cymene) and Love Song (Hunting Song—Mandoline) home, while in the second heat Mr. F'. Earle’s gelding by Diacquenod out of Mazabuka, came through in the straight, after having been slow to begin, to lead Chief Link (Thespian— Silver Link) and Orapai tThespian— Winkle's Wheel) past the post, there being, however, little between the first-named pair, Chief Link having started from an outside position and consequently covered more ground.
